There are seven manufacturers of equipment. Two hold 50% of the market: those are Carrier® and Goodman®.
Carrier® has chosen to satisfy the high-end market, Goodman® the low-cost market.
The other five manufacturers control 50% of the market:
Trane®, Rudd®/Rheem®, York®, Nordyne®, and Lennox®. All manufacturers have various levels of equipment, from value lines to premium lines; and all manufactures have low SEER to High SEER units.
All manufacturers offer private labels except for Carrier® Premium brands (Carrier® and Bryant®). A private label means the manufacturer markets its equipment as exclusive to the HVAC contractor, when in fact it's traditionally the low-end equipment from a particular manufacturer.
