Does your HVAC contractor do these things?
How is Your Warranty Written?
Product registration: All product warranties are limited to 5 years, unless the product is registered by the contractor or home owner.
Your contractor should register your equipment for you, and provide documentation of registration with your paid invoice.
In fact, we do just that, or we pay you $500!
We strongly suggest getting a third party manufacturer warranty in the event you sell the house, the contractor goes out of business, or if you don't want to deal with your contractor any more. It protects you.
The written warranty on the invoice or contract is worthless without product registration. A contractor's warranty is worthless UNLESS they are in business. All our warranties are third party from manufacturer.
When comparing a brand name that has three or four different designs, it's important to compare apples to apples. Get the equipment model numbers when comparing specific brands.
